Relevance - every player on Offense has to block, except K and P, and every player on Deffense has to take on blocks.

Kickers mostly just workout to stay in shape.

Its not really about the amount of weight you can push up, but more about the endurance at a moderate weight. That is why they use 225 pounds for everybody and see how many times they can push it. I mean, its cool for a person to bench 480lbs once, but even better for them to push 225lbs 25 times. Kickers it doesnt matter a bit, they better be doing squats or some other kind of leg exercise while the real men are throwing weight around though.

I've thought for a while that the bench press was overrated as far as football importance. I remember when Bush and White came out from USC. Both were RBs and White was bigger, but Bush beat him in the bench for his NFL workout. Everyone lost their minds because Reggies size was an issue. The whole time I was thinking that it doesn't mean anything. Football strength is in the legs and butt. That's the true test of strength for any NFL player- the Squat.

For kickers its not really relevant. But for say wr, rb or db...it helps measure strength. With bump and run coverage strength is helpful. The more reps you can do, the more you can push people around.
