The pain in your calves (I'm assuming you mean down the front of your calves) is called a shin splint. The muscle has separated from the bone, you need to cool it down for a while. Walk rather than run, but it's important that you give the muscles some exercise and streches. You can also tape your calves when you work out. You can buy rolls of exercise tape at any drug or grocery store, you can find them down the aisle with the shoe insoles and IcyHot patches and they cost $3-$5 (one roll per leg). Shin splints will become less of a problem as you become stronger. I used to have them all the time, but I've been a runner four about six years now and they've gone away for the most part, unless I overexert myself.

The fact that the knee pain is only in the left knee makes me think you have some sort of alignment problem. If you were having a problem with your joints you would feel it in both of your knees. Try seeing a chiropractor, if your alignment is off it could lead to bigger problems as you continue your workouts.
