Is interval training good for you?

Yeah asked:
I have tried short sprint interval training a couple times. I will warm up and then sprint for 30 to 40 seconds, then walk a couple minutes and repeat several times. I really enjoyed it would this be a safe workout of for me to do 3-4 times a week?

YES! I love intervals, they helped me lose the majority of my 100+ lbs of weight. I do my intervals on a stair stepper which is a bit different but it helps to keep your body from getting into a routine so that you don’t hit a plateau and level off. On my stair stepper, I start off at level 5 for one minute, then level six, 7, 8, 9, and 10 and then back down to 5. It’s killer but it works.
I would not do it 3-4 times a week, but 2 times a week and then run easy for longer distance the other days.
You need to develop your cardiovascular system and intervals work on your lactic acid energy system, and doesn’t do much for the aerobic system.
It is safe to do but for general conditioning you should limit the days.
