Has anyone out there used the P90X workout program? If so what were the results?

Andrew F asked:

I am looking for an intense workout program that will keep my interest. i am fairly athletic and want to get back to my football playing shape. I’m 32 years old and I recently saw the P90X infomercial. It looked interesting. Just wondering if anyone out there has tried it.

The secret behind the P90X system is an advanced training technique called Muscle Confusion, which accelerates the results process by constantly introducing new moves and routines so your body never plateaus, and you never get bored! Whether you want to get lean, bulk up, or just plain get ripped, there’s an endless variety of ways to mix and match the routines to keep you motivated the full 90 days and beyond!

All it takes is an hour a day to get in the best shape of your life. And other than a set of dumbbells or resistance bands and a place to do pull-ups, all you really need is some grit-your-teeth commitment.

I looked into this a while back, when i was in a little better shape. I didn’t do it, because I was scared, everything I read came down to this …. It is a self-motivated program, so you have to do it yourself (not too diffficult). The big no-no for me was that people said it is hard!! like really tough, some people who were in shape couldn’t get thru it in the 90 days. I worried that i would get too sore and then just quit it all together. then i’d bee fat like i am now, but a $100 lighter!!

i’m in the middle of it. i’m 33 and desiring to get back to my soccer playing shape (lose 20 lbs, gain flexibility, fitness). it’s a decent workout. the host has grown on me, and it gives me a schedule to follow. it took some getting used to in the first week, but now i’m in week 4 and humming along. i eat pretty healthy already, so i don’t follow their specific meal plan, and i am looking for general fitness, so i don’t buy the supplements. in general, it’s a moderately intense workout you can do in your home with a few dumbbells and a pullup bar, and i enjoy the variety and scheduling. i’m not looking to compete in bodybuilding contests, and i’m already married so i don’t need to attract PYTs. but i’m losing weight (i bike/run on the side too) and feeling better about myself. there are a couple levels of workout, so i am starting with lean (more cardio, less weights) and plan to follow that with normal if all goes well. overall: the price is a little steep, but you are getting 12 workout videos, and if the variety and scheduling help you get over the initial hump of inactivity, it may be worth it for you. if you have access to a full gym, don’t want to be led by video, and are willing to do more session planning yourself, you can probably find similar workout plans posted online for free. this guy hasn’t invented anything new, he’s just packaged it in a way that you can actually use it.
