Do you think it is wrong for women to lift weights at the gym?

Sandstorm222 asked:

I think its really nasty when women lift weights because its like they want to be like men. I think a woman’s arm strength should come from picking up babies, little children, and things around the house. Maybe some gardening as well, but not lifting weights.

There’s nothing wrong with that. I think you’re just jealous that there are a lot of women out there that are a lot stronger than you. Also, I think you’re sexist.

  8. Torey B says:

I personally think it’s gross. Not because they want to be like men, because they just look disgusting! Who wants to look like that? I don’t even like guys who look like that!!

  9. dh1977 says:

If you ever dial 911 for help and a female cop or firefighter shows up, make sure you tell them that. Then help yourself. What an ignorant question.

  10. LALA650 says:

It’s not bad at all. If a woman wants to be stronger and look muscular she can. But i think it’s kinda nasty when they have TOO much muscle if you know what i mean.

  11. Meeya says:

No. Its a new generation where women are doing the same jobs as men does.

  12. ♦B.Trayed Kiddo♦ says:

  16. something crazy says:

its super wrong…… they can do it, but its not gonna help them.

i love girls with not muscles or fat!

  17. mjvts@sbcglobal.net says:

OFCOURSE it’s okay for women to lift weights! it’s a way to exercise and be healthy, and in some sports (ex: gymnastics, cheerleading) you need to work out alot to stay in shape which INCLUDES lifting weights. and if you’re expecting everyone to agree with you on this one, well, i doubt it. sorry. but seriously, wake up to reality here. women and guys are pretty equal these days.

  18. Anon e Mouse says:

I do not think it is wrong for women to lift weights at the gym. It actually helps to tone the underlining chest muscles and helps to perk up those sagging boo.bies that you men love so much.

  19. Woke Up Drunk says:

well quit being a little wuss and pick up a f*cking weight so it wont bother you to see a woman with a little muscle tone

  20. Nina says:

For a Top contributor, i believe that you are a male chauvinist swine. You need to step out of your one dimensional world and face reality (your a wimp)

  21. KAPTAIN K STAR!!!! says:

NOPE… I DO IT ALL THE TIME!

  22. Robert says:

They can do what they want. I mean the question could be reversed by going — is it right for a guy to cook?

But personally, I find those overly muscular and ripped bodybuilder types a tad gross.

  23. mooshie says:

uh….no….women can do whatever they want men need to quit being insecure with their own selves get over it. Although I love gardening doing all the womenly things as long as THE MAN can bring home enough money to support me the lifestyle that a REAL MAN has made me become accustomed to. So step up REAL MEN pay us our due!! Thank you for asking this question, my good man…..

  24. rcmtx16 says:

wow. no, women’s muscles aren’t designed to get as bulky and defined as men’s, but in order to tone up, light weight lifting is essential. but of course any exercise is done in the time between caring for the kids, vacuuming the house, and cooking dinner for the men, though. right?

  25. Gumbo says:

What’s wrong with a woman body builder, she wants muscles that’s up to her, sounds like you are jealous

  26. MISS K.I.A. says:

Do you put women down so much because your afraid the world will find out how small your penis is or is it to hide the fact that your gay? Or maybe your one of the things your wife lifts around the shack. I was thinking maybe it’s because you don’t have a life but a lot of people don’t. They just get dogs or take up a new hobby so you must have issues poor baby.

  27. blahdeblah says:

If we’re lucky, one of those women will toss a weight at your head and put you out of our misery.

  28. ηєvєrmorє says:

The girls beat you up again eh? ;)

  29. Valkyrie says:

  32. Rhapsody says:

Both women and men should exercise. It helps combat against major illness and even diseases. Sometimes, the only proper (safe) place to get exercise is at the gym. I know, in the city I live in, I would never go running late at night. The gym affords people the opportunity to exercise whenever they want to, sometimes even staying open 24 hours.

Sandstorm, you should remember that not EVERY woman has children and not EVERY woman cleans the house. I believe exercising at the gym is a healthy habit to have, for either sex.

  33. Erin says:

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not just about eating right and aerobic activity. Medical professionals constantly state than strength training must occur along with aerobic training. Say a woman is working on losing weight (could be after having a child). You want her to regain her muscle tone, right? You can’t do that by picking up babies and doing housework alone. That’s just not enough. Going to the gym and doing strength training with the aerobic activity will help her lose the weight and regain her muscle tone. She will be healthier in the long run. It’s not about being like a man, but about health and the body being finely tuned.

  34. Marilyn: maiden of the moon says:

I found it nasty, and unattractive to men. My women arms are made for helping my children and my man, to clean, to do everything fit for a woman. I take one weight and my arm ends up sprained.

  35. diabeticlaxplayer J says:

Chauvanistis Pig….I can kick your ass in a weight lifting contest anyday….are ya scared?

  36. CRISTINA S says:

No,I don’t think its wrong as long as they don’t over do it.

  37. Emily says:

no…most women don’t lift weights to be like men…that’s a false and stupid reason
lifting weights just helps you keep in shape and improves muscle tone whether youre a woman or a man

  38. meien says:

The only time it gets nasty is when they take steroids. lol I used to lift weights to help get rid of joint pain. Worked.

  39. dianamarie2 says:

Who has time to go to the gym.

I keep a set of 8 lb weights at home. It’s a great substitute for massage and takes all the stress out of my neck and shoulders. (makes that taut strung like a guitar string feeling go away….)

I also utilize the leg weights at PT. They want to build some endurance in my left leg, which is missing a LOT of hamstring and some sartoris due to tumors.

Sometimes, since women are people, and people each have their own crosses to bear, sometimes it’s not about you, dear…..

P.S. Weight bearing exercise fights osteoporisis which tends to be prevalent in women.

    No medical degree for you.

  40. Fuzzy Wuzzy says:

It’s not my favourite past time, but to each their own I guess.

I think that a musclebound woman is quite ugly, but a well toned woman is lovely.

I like muscles on a man, but not Mr Universe if you get my drift…..
