AoK1990 asked:
I am trying to gain muscle while getting more ripped, and i have recently ordered P90X. But i love to go to the gym, and i was wondering if it would be ok to combine P90X with weight training at the gym, if i tried not to overwork muscles.

You will be overdoing it – take a break from your gym for 90 days.
No, it will be to much cardio and you can not build muscle mass while doing that much cardio.
I do that regiment. I lift weights 6 days a week and i am doing the P90X program also. When you receive your P90X you will get a book with it telling you all about P90X. In that book it will show you 3 different P90X workout programs. Those are: Classic, Doubles, Lean. Classic is the standard way. Doubles is whatever cd they tell you for that day, you do it 2 times in one day instead of once. Lean is more geared for cardio, getting ripped, and losing weight. So since i go to the gym 6 days a week i do the P90X Lean. I started with it slow at first. If my muscles felt sore, i wouldn’t overdo it. But once i was in the rythm of it, i never felt over trained. I love it, and i would recommend it to anyone. Hope this helps.
AoK1990,
I would recommend strictly sticking to the P90X program. The Chest and Back, Arms Shoulder workouts are pretty tough and if you use enough weight so that you are maxing out at 8-10 reps you will not only build mass in those body parts but the cardio routines like Kenpo-X and Plyometrics will get you ripped.
Working out 6 days a week is already over-training. Working out 2-3 times a week in the gym to failure and getting adaquate rest is much better.
P90X is all you need to get absolutely ripped.

I agree that combining the 2 is overdoing it. Training with weights to failure 2-3 times a week instead of 6 combined with P90X is much better and you will see great results.
Combining 2 different types of Training

Try and stick to one thing,if you over work your muscle they wont grow. You can do cardio at gym and p90x for muscle building. Or put workouts on an ipod and do it at the gym. I use to workouts biceps and tri every other day and go no results. with p90x I saw much more gains doing it once a week.
This was a Fantastic wordpress post, I will bookmark this in my Furl account. Have a awesome evening.
you can do both if you are dedicated and really want to see results. However, you should take down your weight when working out at the gym and go higher reps. This builds muscle tone and will not produce as much soreness.
do not mix both…you can go for weight training once in a week …do all free weight exercices with 90% of your maximum limit.do only three failure set of each body part with proper form …..but only once in a week…after stretch.
of course you can lift in the gym and still do p90x. getting to the top isnt about training for reps, training for weights, it’s about training for failure. Making your body fail is always going to make you better. input=output
