Basic Training and Leg Issue?
I leave at the end of this week for the navy. I joined the Dep program not knowing of a leg issue I have. I started running to get in shape (used to go bicycling). One of the tendons in my leg hurts incredibly bad to the point where I walk with a limp for a day or 2 afterwords. I stretch 10-15 minutes before I run even focusing on the hurt leg. Here is my issue I would run on it and my leg got better. I was able to run 2 miles then one day it turned really bad. I think I put to much stress because I can not able to run longer then a half mile now.
What i need to know is this. Should I even attempt to go or is it a waste of time and govts. money? If so what is going to happen when I get to basic? I know I will not be running .5 mile runs.
Also this is not a weight issue I have always stayed fit my endurance is good enough to run 2-3 miles.
I am really starting to worry here.
I do have brand new running shoes. I went out to sport store and bought new.
Also my recruiter is absolutely horrible. My initial recruiter left so i got passed off to this guy who does not care. I try talking to him and its a joke.
I am not letting everything ride on leaving to the military I do have some backup plans if I can not go.

tell your recruiter about it, they will probably give you profile, which means you cant do pt, one of my budies had a similar problem and they just delayed his ship date….dont try to tough it out becuase you could hurt it alot worse….let someone know
Go see a sports DR ASAP, you my be stretching but not properly for the injured leg. Also most running shoes only last for about 200-300 miles before wearing out for running. Have you tried buying new good quality running shoes.

tell your recruiter, thats the biggest thing at the moment. if you go out and injure your leg even further while your IN bootcamp, they could say its a preexisting injury and your just trying to have the navy pay for it and ship you home. they could drop you to a rehabilitation platoon and you could spent MONTHS in basic training waiting for it to heal. or, you could delay your shipout date and go in when your feeling better. the later would be the best option. your recruiter might give you a hard time, but so what. its YOUR life, not his. he wont be TOO upset because he wants you to ship out. to him, your just a number that he NEEDS, so he wont go off the deep end, he’ll probably have that disappointed look kinda like your dad gives you, except its a recruiter… who gives a rats ass what he thinks. chances are you’ll never see him again when you hit the fleet
I would let someone else know like your recruiter and see what he can do. I’d be weary about going on a already hurt leg. Just because (I realize you said navy) but when I went to Marine Corps Boot Camp, if you got hurt, you stayed in boot camp, until you could absolutely pass and become a Marine or the Military could absolutely positively not use you, and that usually took about 13 to 16 months! That is not something I would look forward to. I never went there but I’ve heard many many stories! I wouldn’t recommend it! Oh, and dont’ expect your recruiter to admit to this! I’d ask a friend that is in or has recently gotten out of the military! Recruiters are trained to LIE!!!! That is all they are taught to do, learn the knowledge and then learn how to run circles around you without you even knowing that he’s doing it!
You don’t have a leg issue. You have an injury. One which could disqualify you from entry onto active duty. Tell your recruiter immediately. Then have a doctor examine it and let you know what it is. After that, click on the link below and study very carefully all of the information contained in paragraph 2-10 of Chapter Two.
when you go to the meps station prior to leaving they should go over any medical issue you may have. i was not in the navy i was in the army and i know we ran everyday upto 5 miles aday and when we were not running me were marching. with the army you have to be able to run 2 miles in so much time to grad basic plus ruck marches. if you are unable to run then i would see a doctor to find out whats wrong and get that paperwork to the navy and see what they say. they may waive it or they may not take you.
